What is Stone Crop?
Stone culture is a small, succulent plant commonly found in Hungary, and its name literally means “a stone-grown crop”. This unique plant can thrive in rocky soils and can even grow only on rocks. With its shallow root system, it requires very little soil or water to flourish. This hardy succulent does best in a dry, moderate environment, but can survive almost anywhere with a little care. A fantastic application for the stone culture plant? It is ideal for green roofs because it is easy to grow, does not attract pests and it is resistant to disease.
How We Use Stone Culture
To produce our stone culture products, the plant is processed by hand from start to finish. We collect each stone culture by hand, cut it into quarters, and then squeeze the fresh juice that preserves all the natural hydrating qualities of the plant.
Another processing method we use is to dry and powder the succulent powder before mixing it with a skin care product. Look at our Made in hungary video to see our stone growing plants collected and sorted, hand cut and squeezed into our fresh produce.
Interesting fact: the stone culture plant turns red in cold weather. To ensure that products like ours Stone Crop Whip Moisturizer Y Stone Crop Mask Keeping its vibrant green color, we planted our stone growing plants in trays and brought them indoors before the first cold snap.
Benefits of stone cultivation
Like other succulents (think aloe vera and prickly pear), stone cultivation offers deeply effective yet lightweight hydration. As President of Eminence Organics Boldijarre Koronczay explained to DAYSPA: “The stone culture plant not only helps reduce pigmentation and [brighten] the complexion, also helps to … firm stressed skin, tone the epidermis, hydrate, help reduce the signs of aging and soothe sensitive skin. “Here are some benefits of growing stones for your skin.
Most succulents have a very shallow root system, which relies on rain, mist, or dew to provide all the water it needs to thrive. The stone culture shape channels the water into the center of the plant, where it is stored until the plant needs to use the water to grow.
1. Heals dry skin
Like other succulents, stone cultivation has adapted to a dry environment by retaining large amounts of water in its stem and leaves. Our General Manager, Attila Koronczay, tells Dermstore: “Most succulents have a very shallow root system, which relies on rain, fog or dew to provide all the water it needs to thrive. The shape of the stone culture channels water into the center of the plant, where it is stored until the plant needs to use the water to grow. “This water storage capacity allows stone crops to deeply hydrate and heal dry skin. and dehydrated.
2. Anti-inflammatory properties
For centuries, stone harvest has been used in folk medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties. The bruised leaves of the fresh plant or the juice collected from its leaves were traditionally applied as a poultice to treat a wide range of skin problems, including burns, eczema, and ulcers. This ability to reduce inflammation makes stone culture an ideal remedy for the uncomfortable symptoms of dry and sensitive skin, such as redness and itching.
3. Brightens the skin
When dark spots appear on your skin, your skin has sped up producing melanin. This is often due to stress, such as UV exposure or hormonal imbalances. Similar to others natural hydroquinone alternatives, stone culture brightens the skin by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for the production of melanin. Over time, this minimizes the appearance of dark spots and contributes to a more even-looking complexion.
4. Smooth out wrinkles
Scientific studies confirm that stone culture is rich in antioxidants that reduce the visible signs of aging. Antioxidants such as anthocyanin and quercetin neutralize free radicals that cause oxidative damage to the skin and, over time, contribute to premature aging. By minimizing potential damage, these antioxidants help delay the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help skin stay youthful longer.

Hello! I’m Natalie with Eminence Organic Skin Care and welcome back to another one of our beautiful episodes of In the mix. Really excited when this hit my plate because I was dying to talk about this amazing, amazing plant – growing stones.
It is a succulent. It’s amazing. And it has been around for a long time. Some of us can even recognize it. You may even have it growing right outside your home right now. We see succulents being used a lot for things like eco-design to improve our environment, and at Eminence it has been an inspiration for us to use it as one of our signature scents and ingredients. We have built a whole range inspired by this plant, called the Stone Crop Collection.
When In Doubt – Stone Crop It Out
… At Eminence Organics, we have this fabulous little catchphrase that we use: “When in doubt, cut it out,” and that’s for good reason. It is good for all skin types; everyone can use it.
Gentlemen I know also enjoy using it because it has a very fresh scent, not very floral, which makes it very friendly for anyone to wear. Stone culture also helps minimize the appearance of redness on dry skin, so with men who often shave their faces in mind, our stone culture products are great for helping soothe skin after shaving. .
[The Stone Crop Collection includes] Stone Crop Wash Gel – a Top Ten product, Stone Crop Mask, Stone Crop Moisturizing Gel Y Stone Crop Whip Moisturizer. One of my favorite parts of the Stone Crop Collection is that they give you the option of using a nice, light gel to finish your home care routine or you can use a cream. So whether you have an oily combination or a drying combination, this is a really great piece to present a collection to your friends, family, or yourself.
A more recent addition is Stone Crop Cleaning Oil from our Microgreens collection. Any of you who use cleansing oils will know that they are great for double cleansing, an incredibly valuable technique for makeup gurus because it really helps lift and lift everything. This cleansing oil is also very effective for those who have skin problems. Don’t forget: oil for oil. Just because you have a more oily skin type doesn’t mean you can’t use cleansing oils. This will leave your face beautifully even afterwards, so I know you are going to love this one.
We also add Oxygenating fizzofoliant for stone crops in this collection, who is like the sister or brother of our Strawberry rhubarb dermafoliant. Grab whatever cleanser you want, you could even use Stone Crop Cleansing Oil or Stone Crop Gel Wash, and use a couple of shakes, adding a little bit of water. This will really help with skin that is experiencing milia, blackheads, and congestion.
The only product I can’t live without, to be honest, is ours Stone Crop Moisturizing Mist. Any of you who love makeup or mineral powders, this mist is super shiny as a setting spray. It doesn’t leave a dry residue and it really makes the skin look not super moist, but very hydrated. He’s my gym bag buddy. It’s what refreshes me all day. It smells amazing and it doesn’t bother anyone sitting next to you. Like I said, when in doubt, cut it with stone!
